Paris is the main attraction

Paris Hilton can't quite let go of her need to be the centre of attention - as she willingly pouts and poses for tourists who line up to take their picture with the ex-convict heiress.

Clad in a black crocheted lacy swimsuit, the not-so-shrinking violet revelled in the attention as she spent the afternoon surfing on the beach.

After serving her time for breaking her probation for drink-driving, Hilton told American talk show host Larry King that partying 'is not going to be the mainstay of my life any more'.

But although she hasn't crossed the threshold of a club, she seems to find it hard to exist without the oxygen of celebrity.

Paris cuts a striking figure as she's tries out the local sport, surfing, for size.

She is said to have lost seven pounds in weight during her time in jail, but looked in fine form as she enjoyed the Hawaiian surf.

But despite fleeing to Hawaii to enjoy a sunshine break following her 23-day prison stay - it seems Paris Hilton is destined to be the main attraction wherever she goes.

The socialite, who is best known for her partying and huge appetite for shopping, has seemingly made a quick return to her glamorous lifestyle.

And on a shopping trip to a local boutique in Maui a crowd of holidaymakers gathered to gawp at Paris.

Kept back by burly security guards, a crowd of onlookers followed the heiress as she browsed the stores at a local shopping mall.

And when she stopped at boutique Enchantress, the crowd, brandishing mobile phones and video cameras, stopped too as Paris perused the designer wares and quickly remembered how to use her credit card.

Dressed in a simple black shirt dress and black pumps, and her trademark oversized shades, Paris seemed relaxed as she tried on some Jackie O style headscarves, and mulled over whether to purchase some Fendi ballet-style pumps.

Clearly her appetite has returned, as she tucked into an ice-cream. The hotel heiress claimed she was profoundly affected by her time in prison and vowed to end the wild partying for which she is famous - even if it meant ditching some of her friends.

However, the 26-year-old socialite did spend much of her time in jail doing what she loves most - shopping.

She told King the 'horrible' food plunged her into a 'traumatic' depression, but prison records show that she spent £72 in one week on snacks and cosmetics at the jail's canteen and store.

To supplement her meals, inmate 9818783 ordered 30 packs of chicken broth, five packs of chicken noodle soup, seven muffins, ten snack bars, 3lb of toffee peanuts, five bags of pretzels, plus tea and coffee.

She also bought cold cream, Vaseline, a brown eyebrow pencil and an emery board, according to documents obtained by gossip website TMZ.com.
